Exclusive interview with Onur Osman: Redefining fashion
Today we are delighted to meet in this article Romanian designer Onur Osman, whose distinct blend of cultural heritage and modern design has made waves on the global fashion scene. More than 5 million young followers from all over the world, a handsome man and hunted by many international stars, the Romanian Onur Osman is a phenomenon.
His collections are celebrated for their craftsmanship, elegance and above all cultural references.
A:- Let’s start from the beginning. Growing up in Romania, how did your cultural experience influence your fashion journey?
Onur Osman: – My cultural heritage has always been an essential part of who I am. I always aim to combine the old with the new – modern silhouettes with elements from the roots of European culture. It’s my way of paying tribute to the heritage of world art and culture, while creating something relevant to today’s fashion scene.
A.:- That mix of tradition and modernity is definitely a hallmark of your work. How do you approach incorporating these cultural references into the modern, more minimalist world and art?
Onur Osman: – I think the key is subtlety and balance. I don’t want the outfits I create to feel like a history lesson. It’s more about translating the essence of culture and art – whether it’s a specific embroidery technique or a color palette – into something contemporary, powerful and beautiful.
A.: – Many designers consider that their aesthetics evolve over time. How has your design philosophy changed since you started?
Onur Osman: – When I started, I was more focused on perfecting the techniques, learning the craft and experimenting with shapes and fabrics. Over time, I became more conceptual in my collections. Now, every collection tells a story – there is a deeper narrative behind the pieces, often connected to cultural or social themes that are important to me. I’m also more sustainable in my approach now. Fashion can no longer be just about aesthetics; it must also be about accountability.
A.: – Your collections often seem very personal and full of passion. Can you walk us through your creative process?
Onur Osman: – A collection always starts with a concept or a feeling, with a personal experience. For me, fashion is a form of storytelling, so I have to be deeply connected to the idea before I start sketching. I will often research a lot – history, art, cultural symbols. Then I start sketching, thinking about how I can bring this concept to life through fabrics, textures and shapes. I am also very active in the production phase, working closely with artisans to ensure that everything aligns with my vision.
R.: – Speaking of global fashion, where do you see yourself in the next five years? What’s next for the Onur Osman brand?
Onur Osman: I’m always looking to grow, both creatively and as a brand. Already at the age of 25 I was completely financially independent, I was making my first millions in fashion. In the next five years, I would like to see my label expand even more internationally while staying true to its European roots. The big stage of international fashion, the big book of fashion is the natural step, alongside the historical brands. The possibilities are endless and I’m excited to see where the journey takes me. Doors are opening more and more for me in recent years, being grateful to receive so much support from more and more countries where new markets are opening for my concepts and ideas.
R.: – Thank you, Onur Osman! We are waiting for you to make us proud of the greatest Romanian designer, who today stands alongside the biggest names of international fashion.
Onur Osman: – With great love, I am waiting for you with a new interview anytime.
